Wear Pass

Wear Pass

Protect your lease. Drive with peace of mind.

If you’ve leased a Toyota, you know that returning the vehicle at the end of your lease means more than just handing over the keys. Toyota Financial Services offers Toyota Wear Pass (and Wear Pass Plus) — elective excess wear & tear protection plans designed to help you avoid unexpected charges when your lease ends.

What is Wear Pass?

Wear Pass is an addendum to your lease agreement. It’s a waiver protection plan that covers certain types of damage (beyond what’s considered “normal” wear and tear) so that you don’t face steep fees at the end of your lease. There are two levels:

  • Wear Pass: Basic coverage that waives many types of excess wear & tear charges.
  • Wear Pass Plus: A higher-level coverage with broader protection and higher damage thresholds.

What’s Covered

Depending on whether you choose Wear Pass or Wear Pass Plus, you can avoid charges for:

Type of Damage / SituationWear Pass CoverageWear Pass Plus Coverage
Maximum total damage charges waivedUp to $5,000 Up to $7,500
Excess kilometres1,000 km over allowed lease limit2,500 km over
Body panel dents, dings, scratches, and chipsCovered (within limits)Covered with higher thresholds
Interior damage (cuts, burn holes, stains, tears)Covered for damage under specified limitsMore generous limits on what gets waived
Alloy wheel damage / curb damageCovered under certain thresholdsBetter coverage under Wear Pass Plus
Glass chips, cracks, scratchesSome coverage (windshield, windows, mirrors, etc.)More inclusive threshold for “Wear Pass Plus”
Missing parts, remotes, keys, etc. Some coverage up to specific amounts (e.g. up to $250 for missing parts except key/fob) in Wear Pass; Wear Pass Plus may cover more.

What’s Not Covered / What to Watch Out For

Wear Pass is helpful, but it doesn’t mean anything goes. Some exclusions or limitations still apply:

  • It does not cover excess mileage (the plan waives some wear & tear but you’ll still be responsible if you exceed your allotted kilometres much beyond the plan’s threshold).
  • Damage that is very severe or beyond the stated limits (for example, huge dents, deep gouges, structural damage) may not be covered.
  • You’ll still have to follow the recommended maintenance schedule of your lease, and avoid neglect, misuse, or abuse.
  • Cosmetic modifications not part of the original vehicle may be excluded.

Why Wear Pass Is Worth Considering

  • No surprises at lease end — many lessors charge substantial fees for damage considered “excess wear & tear,” and Wear Pass helps you avoid or reduce these.
  • Protects your budget — rather than paying for damages individually, Wear Pass gives you a known-quantity safety net.
  • Keeps your Toyota looking better for longer. If you plan to keep it in good shape, neat exterior and interior condition, with repaired dents/chips etc., it helps maintain the vehicle’s resale or lease return value.
  • Peace of mind — one less thing to worry about.

How to Add Wear Pass

  • Ask your Smithers Toyota leasing specialist about adding Wear Pass or Wear Pass Plus when you set up your lease. This will be included as an addendum to your lease agreement.
  • Pricing depends on the level (Wear Pass vs Wear Pass Plus), the lease term, your expected driving/usage, and how much protection you want.
  • Make sure you get the detailed guidelines and “Wear & Tear Guidelines” so you understand exactly what qualifies and what doesn’t.

End-of-Lease Tips

To make the most of your Wear Pass (or avoid charges if you don’t have it):

  • Maintain your vehicle regularly (tires, inside, paint, etc.).
  • Fix small issues early (chips, dents) before they worsen.
  • Keep records & receipts of repairs you do prior to lease end.
  • Clean interior regularly — protect seats, carpets.
  • Schedule a pre-inspection within the last 60 days of your lease (if available) to see what potential wear & tear might be counted and possibly make repairs in advance.
